Barksdale appointed to serve on Lincoln Co. commission

Chief Judge Thomas B. Hammond, Toombs Judicial Circuit, has appointed D’Metric P. Barksdale to fill the 3rd District seat on the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners.
Barksdale will represent the 3rd District until Dec.  31. A special election will be held in conjunction with the General Election on November 3. The winner of the Nov.3 General Election will serve the remaining two years of the term, Jan.1, 2027, through Dec.31, 2028.
Chairman Walker T. Norman has reached out to  Barksdale and welcomed her on behalf of the commissioners to board.
“We look forward to working with Commissioner Barksdale as
she takes her seat on the board. She has my support as well as the support of the county attorney and department heads as she prepares to serve as a member of the Board of
Commissioners,” he said.

Barksdale takes the place of former commissioner Cooper Cliatt, who was recently sentenced to 10 years of probation as part of a plea deal on charges of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree. Cliatt was required to step down from elected office as part of his plea deal.

Barksdale will be sworn in on July 6 at 4 p.m., at the Lincoln County Courthouse.
