Unofficial Runoff Results Released for McCormick County

McCORMICK — McCormick County voters returned to the polls Tuesday, June 23, to
participate in South Carolina’s Republican runoff election, selecting nominees in three
statewide races and deciding a closely contested County Council District 2 race.
According to unofficial results reported by the South Carolina Election Commission as of
10:05 p.m. June 23, 1,278 ballots were cast in McCormick County. Of the county’s
7,731 registered voters, turnout was 16.53%.
In the Republican runoff for governor, Alan Wilson received 719 votes, or 57.02%, while
Pamela Evette received 542 votes, or 42.98%.
In the Republican runoff for attorney general, David Stumbo received 913 votes, or
73.93%, compared to 322 votes, or 26.07%, for Stephen Goldfinch.
The Republican runoff for commissioner of agriculture saw Cody Simpson receive 633
votes, or 52.57%, while Danny Ford received 571 votes, or 47.43%.
Locally, the Republican runoff for McCormick County Council District 2 produced the
closest contest of the evening. According to unofficial results, Bernie Hamby received
226 votes, or 50.56%, while Judy Boyd received 221 votes, or 49.44%. The two
candidates were separated by five votes.
The District 2 race drew a total of 447 votes and was one of the closest contests in the
county during the 2026 election cycle.
Most ballots cast in McCormick County were submitted either during the early voting
period or on Election Day, with only a small number cast through absentee-by-mail
voting.
The June 23 runoff followed the June 9 Republican Primary Election and was required
in races where no candidate received a majority of votes during the primary.
These results are unofficial and remain subject to certification by election officials.
