McCormick County Voters Favor Graham, Stumbo in June 9 Primaries

McCORMICK, S.C. — McCormick County voters turned out in strong numbers for the June 9, 2026 primary elections, casting ballots in contested Republican and Democratic races for statewide offices and federal seats. According to unofficial election returns released Tuesday evening, Republican voters overwhelmingly backed incumbent U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, while Democratic voters selected Sylvia Wright for State Superintendent of Education and Ernest E. Mackins for the 3rd Congressional District nomination.

Countywide voter turnout reached approximately 35.5 percent, with more than 1,600 Republican ballots and just over 1,000 Democratic ballots cast.

Republican Results

In the Republican gubernatorial primary, Pamela Evette led the field in McCormick County with 563 votes (34.31%), followed by Alan Wilson with 431 votes (26.26%). Former Congresswoman Nancy Mace received 206 votes (12.55%), while Ralph Norman garnered 218 votes (13.28%).

The race for Attorney General saw David Stumbo dominate local voting with 925 votes (59.91%), far ahead of Stephen Goldfinch with 395 votes (25.58%) and David Pascoe with 224 votes (14.51%).

For Commissioner of Agriculture, Danny Ford narrowly edged Cody Simpson in McCormick County, receiving 555 votes (37.32%) compared with 471 votes (31.67%). Fred West received 245 votes (16.48%), while Jeremy Cannon collected 216 votes (14.53%).

Incumbent U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham carried the county decisively, receiving 1,109 votes (67.83%). His nearest challenger, Mark Lynch, received 357 votes (21.83%), while the remaining candidates each finished below four percent.

Republican voters also approved both statewide party advisory questions. Question 1 passed with 91.14 percent support, while Question 2 received 78.21 percent approval.

Democratic Results

In the Democratic gubernatorial primary, Jermaine Johnson captured a commanding victory in McCormick County with 767 votes (73.96%). Billy Webster received 173 votes (16.68%), while Mullins McLeod finished with 97 votes (9.35%).

The Democratic contest for Secretary of State was closely divided, with Jason Belton prevailing over Edwinna Winter, 560 votes (54.58%) to 466 votes (45.42%).

For State Treasurer, Vincent Coe narrowly defeated Tray Robertson Jr., receiving 518 votes (51.39%) compared with 490 votes (48.61%).

In the race for State Superintendent of Education, Sylvia Wright secured a convincing win with 697 votes (68.74%), while Lisa Ellis received 317 votes (31.26%).

The Democratic U.S. Senate primary produced a competitive three-way race. Annie Andrews led the county with 470 votes (45.19%), followed by Brandon P. Brown with 405 votes (38.94%) and Kyle Freeman with 165 votes (15.87%).

In the Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 3, Ernest E. Mackins defeated Eunice Lehmacher, receiving 535 votes (52.97%) to 475 votes (47.03%).

Results remain unofficial until certified by election officials.
