Lincoln County Voters Favor Collins, Jones in June 16 Runoff

(LINCOLN COUNTY, Ga.) – Lincoln County voters backed Mike Collins and Burt Jones in the June 16 General Primary Runoff, with Republican turnout far exceeding Democratic participation across the county’s seven precincts.

In the Republican runoff for U.S. Senate, Collins narrowly carried Lincoln County with 592 votes, or 52.2 percent, compared to 543 votes for Derek Dooley. Collins won by a margin of 49 votes countywide.

The Republican gubernatorial runoff also produced a competitive result. Burt Jones received 602 votes to Rick Jackson’s 543, giving Jones a 59-vote victory in Lincoln County.

The closest major Republican contest was the lieutenant governor runoff, where John F. Kennedy defeated Greg Dolezal by a 575-544 margin. Kennedy carried four precincts, while Dolezal won three.

Republican voters strongly favored Tim Fleming in the secretary of state runoff. Fleming received 712 votes countywide, defeating Vernon Jones, who received 359 votes.

In the Republican race for state school superintendent, incumbent Richard Woods narrowly carried Lincoln County with 576 votes to 528 for Fred “Bubba” Longgrear. Woods won four of the county’s seven precincts.

Josh Tolbert posted a decisive victory in the Republican Public Service Commission District 5 runoff, defeating Bobby Mehan 574 votes to 447.

Among Democratic voters, Nabilah Parkes carried Lincoln County in the lieutenant governor runoff with 197 votes, compared to 118 for Josh McLaurin. Penny Brown Reynolds won the Democratic secretary of state runoff by a 240-75 margin over Dana Barrett.

Keisha Sean Waites defeated DeAndre Mathis in the Democratic insurance commissioner runoff, while Nikki Porcher carried the county in the Democratic labor commissioner contest.

In the Democratic runoff for Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, Ceretta Smith defeated Traci “Acree” George by a 185-133 margin. Smith carried five of the county’s seven precincts.
