Lincoln County has poor turnout in runoff election

Lincoln County voters have spoken, having made their choices in the General Primary Runoff on June 16.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Mike Collins beat Derek Dooley, with 52.16% of Lincoln County voters choosing Collins, to Dooley’s 47.84%.

On the Republican ticket for the gubernatorial race, Burt Jones came out on top in Lincoln County, with 52.58 % of the vote, against Rick Jackson’s 47.42%.

Local voters also chose John F. Kennedy for Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, with 51.39% of the vote. Greg Dolezal took 48.61%. On the Democratic ticket, local voters chose Nabilah Parkes with an overwhelming 62.54% to opponent Josh McLaurin’s 37.46%.

Lincoln County voters picked Tim Fleming for Secretary of State, with 66.48% of the vote on the Republican ticket, versus Vernon Jones’ 33.52%. Democratic voters chose Penny Brown Reynolds with a whopping 76.19%, against opponent Dana Barrett’s 23.81%.

In the race for State School Superintendent, incumbent Richard Woods narrowly defeated Fred “Bubba” Longgrear on the Republican ticket, with Woods garnering 52.17% of the vote versus Longgrear’s 47.83%.

Ceretta Smith took 58.18% of the vote for the District 12 U.S. House of Representatives spot on the Democratic ticket, while opponent Traci “Acree” George took 41.82%.

Statewide results show Collins beating Dooley with 56% of the vote, versus Dooley’s 44% in the race for U.S. Senate.

In the race for governor, Republican Jackson took a win with 53% of the vote, versus Jones’ 47% on the Republican ticket.

On the Democratic ticket, McLaurin took 55% of the vote, while Parkes took 45% for Lieutenant Governor. On the Republican ticket, Dolezal took 54% to Kennedy’s 46%.

In the race for School Superintendent, Woods and Longgrear were neck and neck, with Woods taking 51% of the vote, and Longgrear taking 49%.

Only 23% of those registered in Lincoln County voted. Statewide, 1,106,942 of 7,358,462, or 15% of voters turned out.
